Homecoming 2009

Join us in New Orleans for the reunion you've been waiting for! We've connected online, now it's time to plan our pilgrimage to where it all began (for most of us). Enjoy the food, the events, seeing old friends and making new ones! If you were Greek, lived in the dorm, were a music major or just hung under tree ... we're looking for all former students / alum. Bring your family or a friend and share the XU / New Orleans experience!

Obama's Nobel Peace Prize

By GREGORY KATZ, Associated Press Writer Gregory Katz, Associated Press Writer

LONDON – The choice of President Barack Obama for the Nobel Peace Prize was cheered Friday by a global chorus from European leaders to minibus passengers in Kenya — but it also elicited criticism over the decision to break with tradition and recognize hopeful promise over concrete achievement.

Obama is seen as having changed the direction of U.S. foreign policy, reversing many of his predecessor's unilateral policies and emphasizing the need for diplomacy, cooperation and mutual respect. READ MORE>>>

Xavier support in Southern California

I missed most of you at the Annual XU Alumni Club #6 New Orleans Jazz Brunch on Sunday 10/18/2009. As I scanned the room, I noticed very few of my classmates and young people like myself there. We all know how important Club #6 has been to the SOCal XU Family and supportive of Xavier U. for so many years. Now is the time for that XU tree to grow before it dwindles and dies. If we gather as few or a group of one hundred let us bring honor and support XU!!!

NATIONAL RANKINGS

According to the U.S. Department of Education, Xavier continues to rank first nationally in the number of African American students earning undergraduate degrees in both the biological/life sciences and the physical sciences. The American Institute of Physics (AIP) reports that Xavier is first nationally in awarding physics BS degrees to African-Americans.

Xavier has been especially successful in educating health professionals. In pre-medical education, Xavier is first in the nation in placing African American students into medical schools, where it has been ranked for the past 15 years. The acceptance rate of Xavier graduates by medical schools is almost twice the national average, and 92% of those who enter medical schools go on to complete their degree programs. The College of Pharmacy, one of only two pharmacy schools in Louisiana, is among the nation's top three producers of African American Doctor of Pharmacy degree recipients.

Xavier was one of only six schools chosen to participate in the National Science Foundation’s Model Institutions for Excellence in Science, Engineering and Mathematics program.
